ABOUT ME

Meet Clare

Welcome to Movement Alchemy where we take a journey together into the whimsical world of mindful movement practices.

I am a certified Yoga and Breath Work Instructor, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, dancer and Personal Trainer passionate about gifting teachings to help people feel good in their own bodies.

With over 17 years experience in the Health and Wellness industry, I was always looking for a way to weave the teachings that I was privileged to experience into a fabric of my own.

My movement journey began as a toddler in Russian Ballet before moving into Hip Hop and Contemporary Dance as a teen at the Sydney Dance Company. I incorporate dance into my personal practice, teaching and studying styles such as traditional and contemporary African, Jamaican Dancehall, Five Rhythms and Contact Improvisation.

Since childhood I was interested in the how, why and where of physical practices, and as I grew older, in the point in which they intersect and coalesce. It became the bedrock of how I would go on to create movement art forms through the interweaving of my practices.

After certifying as a Master Personal Trainer, I attended the International Ashram of the Art of Living in India to study under H.H Sri Sri Ravishankar receiving certification in Yoga, Pranayama (Breath work) and Samadhi Meditation. The International Art of Living Ashram in Bangalore was my home where I taught Sri Sri Yoga and Meditation courses, I also conducted courses for AOL international teachers in Sri Sri Yoga and Art of Silence courses from 2007-2009.

In 2011, I ventured to Christmas Island as the resident yoga, meditation, fitness and dance teacher at the Christmas Island Immigration Detention Centre. During this time I was exposed to a plethora of cultures and their movement art forms including those from Persia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Africa and Australian Aboriginal and Indigenous dance. This deepened and nurtured a lifelong study into various dance styles and their cultures. The Christmas Island experience catapulted me into a love for cultural anthropology which took me to university to study social-cultural anthropology. It looks at the diversity of human societies in time and space, while looking for commonalities across and between them.

Dance in all its forms meandered into various movement study of all kinds; Contact Improvisation, Somatic Experiencing and Non-Violent Communication, Circling and Relational training, Trauma-Informed Yoga and Movement as therapy, Acro-Yoga, Ancestral Movement, Parkour, Ido Portal Method, Fighting Monkey as well as Kung Fu, Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and Tai Chi.

In 2022 I completed a two year Buddhist Trauma-Informed Mindfulness Meditation Teacher certification program studying under venerable teachers, Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.

Through practicing, learning and integrating these life-long practices, I created my own methodology which I call Movement Alchemy; a wellness method designed to cultivate a strong, centred body and to build self-awareness in time and space for body, mind and spirit.

I see myself as an earthy mother and parent of two babes, a social worker and a hobby chef with a raw, honest and holistic approach to life.

I look forward to moving together!
